15 Day Self Drive Safari in Tanzania – Explore Tanzania Highlights

Start your self-drive adventure in Tanzania by hiring a 4×4 vehicle with 4×4 Self Drive Africa Ltd. Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will find that our representative already waiting for you and you do the paperwork later you will start your first day of the 15 days self-drive safari in Tanzania by transferring to your lodge in Moshi. If the weather is clear, you will get a chance to have a clear view of Mount Kilimanjaro on your way to Moshi. Upon your arrival at the lodge, you will get a chance to rest after a long flight and enjoy the first impression of the country.

Day 2: Transfer and Explore Arusha National Park

After breakfast at the lodge in Moshi. You will do some simple checks on your 4×4 like checking the engine oil level, radiator water lever, tightening the battery terminals, and other important parts before you start the engine and transfer to Arusha National Park. The park is found between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru the thing which makes the drive to the park more beautiful. You will drive for about 1.5 hours drive from Moshi to reach Arusha National Park which is home to a variety of wildlife like buffalo, giraffe, elephant, hippo, baboon, colobus monkey, Bushbuck, jackal and warthog, and others. The variety of landscape forms and the diverse flora together with the Ngurdoto Crater and the Momella Lakes make your first day on the Tanzania safari more fantastic and memorable. You will enjoy a game drive in the park and explore what Arusha National Park has to offer. dinner and overnight will be in any lodge or campsite in the park.

Day 3: Transfer to Tarangire National Park

Very early this morning, you will have breakfast at the lodge and then get ready to transfer to Tarangire National Park found in the south of Arusha the park is one of the common safari parks that makes the northern Tanzania safari circuit. You will enter the park through the northern gate from where you will start your afternoon game drive where you will get a chance to spot different animals like; giraffe, waterbuck, dik dik, eland, Grant’s gazelle, impala, banded mongoose, vervet monkey, and olive baboon. Predators you can find in the park include lions, cheetahs, leopards, caracal, honey badgers, and African wild dogs. The Tarangire River is the lifeline for the impressive herds of elephants and various other wildlife species. Later after this amazing game drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Game Drive to Explore Tarangire National Park

This day will be reserved to explore Tarangire National Park, today you will have breakfast at the lodge and then prepare yourself and embark on a morning game drive in Tarangire National Park. Here you will get a chance to see different herds of elephants. The Tarangire River in that crosses the park is the lifeline for the animals and the whole national park. In addition to elephants, there are also lions, various species of antelope, and giraffes. The hilly, savannah landscape with the huge baobab trees and the swamps. Enjoy the fantastic wildlife and landscape once again on today’s game drive before heading back to your lodge for late lunch.

Day 5: Transfer from Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, you will hit the road and continue to Lake Manyara National Park. The national park is found at the foot of the East African Rift Valley. In case you are a lucky visitor, you might spot the tree-climbing lions that the national park is known for. The sparsely overgrown plain on the salt lake Lake Manyara offers you a clear view of the natural spectacle with baboons, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and a lot of elephants. In the evening you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Serengeti National Park

Today you will wake up a bit early for breakfast and then embark on a 4hours drive from Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enjoy a first glimpse of the animal paradise from the crater rim. Then it goes on for about 80 km over a well-developed so-called corrugated iron road, which extends deep into the Serengeti. Here it’s advisable to drive not faster than 40 km/h, even if you are repeatedly overtaken by local guides at full throttle. With its varied vegetation, small hills, and extinct volcanoes, the journey will not be boring. You will reach the Serengeti National Park entrance in the afternoon and before reaching the gate you will have a chance to spot different animals like wildebeest, and zebras, and by luck, you can also see lions and elephants. In the afternoon after lunch, you will go for an evening game drive to explore Serengeti attractions.

Day 7: Explore Serengeti National Park

You will have a cup of coffee at the lodge and then get ready for an early morning game drive in the park. The first rays of the sun cast long shadows. It’s the best time to take good photos! There are high chances of spotting lions eating breakfast and watching jackals and hyenas trying to take a piece. Different bird species will be spotted in the park and later you will return to the lodge in the afternoon for lunch and wait for another evening game drive.

Day 8: Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast at the lodge, you will get ready to leave Serengeti National park through Nebi Gate to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will have a chance to enjoy an en-route game drive where you will get a chance to spot different animals like lions, elephants, and the huge wildebeest herds with the zebras that are always nearby, and with luck, you will also see leopards today.

Day 9: Explore Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will have an opportunity to spend a day in this amazing animal paradise which is about 20 kilometers in diameter, the height difference between the crater rim and the ground is about 600 meters and the crater rim is about 2,300 meters above sea level. The park is home to about 25,000 large animals and there are high chances of spotting the BIG 5 animals (lions, buffaloes, rhinos, elephants, and leopards).

Day 10: Transfer back to Moshi

On this day you will wake up for early morning breakfast and then get ready for a simple game drive in Ngorongoro later you will return to the lodge for lunch and then get ready to transfer to Moshi where you will have dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Transfrer to Dar es Salaam

On this day you will wake up early for a simple breakfast and then hit the road and transfer to Dar es Salaam. this will be a full-day drive and you will have your lunch en route. You will reach Dar es salaam late in the evening and check in at Dar es Salaam Serena hotel where you will have dinner and overnight.

Day 12 to 14: Transfer and Enjoy Beach Life in Zanzibar

On the 12th day, you will leave your hotel in Dar es Salaam in the morning and then transfer to board a ferry to Zanzibar which will take something like 2 hours on the water as you head to Zanzibar Island. You will spend the 12th, 13th, and 14th at the hotel in Zanzibar and also enjoy sandy beach activities on the Island. Perfect for unwinding and recovering from everyday life.

Day 15: Transfer to Dar es Salaam and later to Julius Nyerere Airport
