Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala – Queen Elizabeth National Park
The first day will start by meeting the agent from 4×4 Self Drive Africa Ltd who will deliver your vehicle either at your hotel or at the airport. you will get a simple briefing about the vehicle you hire and then advice on different important tips on how to drive in Africa. later you will do all the paperwork and then you will be free to start your self-drive safari by driving towards the western part of the country to Queen Elizabeth National Park which is found in approximately 370km from Kampala capital of Uganda. You will have an en-route stop at the Equator for photographs and also to experience being in both hemispheres at once, continue through the lush hills of the Queen Elizabeth National Park with lots of game drive en-route, and arrive by evening for dinner and overnight at the lodge of your choice.
Day 2: Game drive & Launch cruise
On this morning, you will wake up for a cup of tea/coffee, and go for a game viewing drive to catch up with early raisers and predators returning to their hideouts. Expect to have excellent opportunities to see different animals like Spotted Hyena, leopard, Uganda Kob, Herds of elephants, wart hogs, Lion, Bush babies, and several primates.
After the morning game drive, you will return to your lodge for a full breakfast; relax as you wait for lunch. After lunch, you will get ready for an afternoon launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel, known for the highest concentration of hippos in Africa and with about 610 bird species. You will see a variety of games on the banks of Kazinga Channel, seen drinking at the water’s edge, Buffalo linger in the shallows and a variety of water-loving birds on the shores including the Great White, Pink-Backed Pelicans, Great and Long-Tailed Cormorants, Open-Billed Stork, African Jacana, and the rare shoebill among others. After you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Depart for Bwindi Forest; Home of Mountain Gorillas
On the third day, you will have breakfast and then embark on a 170km drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This journey will take you through the Ishasha sector, famous for tree-climbing lions, you will arrive at the park in the late afternoon for lunch. If the evening is free, you can take a walk to nearby Batwa communities (Pygmies). Then in the evening, you will return for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Tracking
Trekking mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest National Park is the highlight of any safari to Uganda. on this day you will wake up and get ready for today’s incredible experience. You will have breakfast at the lodge and then transfer to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park headquarters for a short briefing about the rules and regulations to follow when you are with mountain gorillas in the jungle. The hiking process will take something like 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in search of food and shelter in their natural environment. The gorilla trekking activity involves going through steep slopes, penetrating thick jungles, and hiking the thing which makes the activity a bit tiresome and it needs a certain level of physical fitness to go for gorilla trekking. However, the excitement of meeting these amazing primates erases the bad memories you pass through when you were trying to find them. after finding them, you will be around to stay with them for a maximum of one hour while taking photos and recording videos, you will be allowed to ask all the questions about the gorillas and the ranger guide will reply to you. after you will return to the lodge for relaxation and wait for dinner and overnight.
If the evening is free, you can take a nature walk in search of birds around the lodge.
Day 5: Return back to Kampala
After these incredible / lifetime experiences, you will hit the road and drive back to Kampala after having breakfast and start our picnic drive, with lots of game viewing en route. You will reach Kampala in the late afternoon and relax at your lodge for dinner and overnight and even you can choose to explore Kampala nightlife by visiting one of the nightclubs in the city.
Day6: Kampala City Tour – Departure
After breakfast, visit Kasubi Tombs, King’s Palace, Buganda parliament, Local Markets, African Art and Craft Shops, and Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, later in the evening, transfer to the airport where you will find the agent from 4×4 Self Drive Africa Ltd waiting for you to take back the car to the office.
