This 3-day self-drive gorilla safari is one of the shortest gorilla safaris in Uganda, this safari package will take you to visit the Mountain gorillas in their natural habitat in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
Day 1: Transfer Kampala – Bwindi Forest National Park
On the first day of this 3-day, gorilla safari will start with hiring a safari vehicle in Uganda, and on the day of starting the safari, you will have to pick your vehicle at the offices of the car rental company, or some company can deliver the car to your location either at your place of residence, hotel or at the airport. After getting the car, you will wake up early morning with a drive to the southwestern part of the country to Bwindi Forest National Park the home to the rare and endangered mountain gorillas. This amazing drive will take you through Kigezi Highlands which are mostly known as the Switzerland of Uganda, Banana Plantations, and herds of Ankole cattle. You will reach the park in the evening for dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs Lodge, Silverback Lodge, or Buhoma community Rest camp.Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Forest
On this day you will have breakfast at the lodge where you spend the last night and then you will transfer the drive directly to the national park headquarters. Here you will get a short briefing from the park ranger on how you should behave when you with the mountain gorillas in the park. After the briefing, you will be grouped into a group of eight people and each group will have to visit a different gorilla family. Then you will enter the car and continue to the starting point of gorilla trekking from where you will enter the thick forest when you are accompanied by the ranger guide and an armed guard. The time you will spend when searching for these primates is unpredictable but it will vary from 2 – 8 hours depending on the movement of these animals in the forest in search of food.
After finding the mountain gorillas, you will be given a maximum of an hour to spend with these animals as you take photos, recording videos, and even watching the young as they play on tree branches, you will have a chance to ask questions about these animals and the ranger guide will be there to answer all the questions you will have. After this amazing encounter with the rare and endangered mountain gorillas, you will return to the lodge, relax and wait for dinner and overnight. If you still have enough energy, in the evening you can opt to have an evening village walk to the neighboring communities to see and learn more about how Ugandans spend the day to day life and even their culture and lifestyles.
Day 3: Transfer Back to Kampala
On this day, you will have breakfast at the lodge and hit the road to drive 500km from Bwindi Forest National park to Kampala with an en-route stop in Masaka Town for lunch. You will reach Kampala in the evening for overnight and dinner at your hotel in Entebbe or transfer to the airport in case your departure flight is scheduled on that day.
